Looking after the safety of our employees underpins our entire approach to business. Our dedicated safety team sets and monitors policies and performance targets and is responsible for a range of initiatives that support a commitment to continuous improvement. We adhere to best practice in line with our membership of the Contractors Health and Safety Scheme, Safe Contractor and the Safety Schemes in Procurement programme.
We continually evaluate our operations against a set of key performance indicators to benchmark safety standards and assess our management practices. Results are analysed and reviewed on a regular basis to make sure that targets are being achieved. At the same time, our reactive monitoring procedures ensure that all accidents, injuries, incidents and dangerous occurrences are thoroughly investigated and reported to the relevant authorities if appropriate.
Our people are our biggest asset and we work hard to equip all employees with the highest levels of competence, whatever their role. We run an evolving programme of initiatives designed to keep our teams up-to-date with the latest best practice, including comprehensive induction courses for new staff, regular health and safety meetings and tool-box-talks, safety bulletins, safety alerts, technical guidance notes and newsletters.
High quality training is at the heart of our commitment to continuous improvement. Training matrices are reviewed and updated on an on-going basis to ensure that every employee is able to continually improve their skills and knowledge of safety through both in-house courses and professional training organisations. Our own programmes include safety awareness, use of harnesses, as well as tailored job-specific training. Construction Skills Certification Scheme registered, and all operatives are trained to the required level approved by CISRS level.
Our in house Health & Safety Recognition Award Initiative was started in 2012. The award has bred a higher level of health and safety culture among our front line workers, whilst positively promoting stronger relationships with clients and principal contractors. In Partnership with Project Principal Contractors, Safety Recognition Awards have been awarded to deserving scaffolding operatives in Mattison Scaffolding Ltd employ.
A Health & Safety Recognition Award Proposal Form is completed by respective Contracts Managers detailing valid reasons for the award, names of operatives and contract details. This is submitted to the Health and Safety department and authorisation is sought.
